Top 50 International Scholarship Programs Offered Annually

A significant number of international scholarships are offered annually. Even if you missed the scholarship deadline last year or this year, you can always plan to apply at a later time when you are more prepared and/or more qualified. Please take note that annual scholarship programs are not perpetual, it may be discontinued at any given time. You are advised to check with the scholarship provider if the scholarship will be offered for the year you wish to study.


 

United States »

 

Foreign Fulbright Student Program
The Fulbright Program are full scholarships for international students who wants to pursue a Master’s or PhD degree in USA.  The scholarships can also be awarded for non-degree postgraduate studies.  The grant covers tuition fee, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.

AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship Program
The AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship is targeted to high-achieving international students who are dedicated to positive civic and social change and who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree offered at the American University. It is intended for students who will be to returning home to improve under-resourced, underserved communities in his/her home country.  The AU EGL scholarship covers full tuition and room & board.

ICSP Tuition Scholarships at University of Oregon 
International students who demonstrate financial need and exceptional merit may apply for the International Cultural Service Program (ICSP) at the University of Oregon. Selected ICSP students receive a tuition-waiver scholarship ranging from $9,000 – $27,000. ICSP students agree to complete 80 hours per year of cultural service as required by the program.

Humphrey Fellowship Program
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world. Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or private sector.  The fellowships are full grants covering all related expenses.

AAUW International Fellowships
AAUW (formerly known as the American Association of University Women) awards international fellowships  for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. The scholarship are worth $18,000 for Masters, 20,000 for PhD and $30,000 for Postdoctoral students.

UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award
University of British Columbia (UBC) provides bachelors scholarships for talented secondary and post-secondary international students from around the world.  The value of awards is commensurate with demonstrated financial need, up to full tuition costs for the relevant program of study, and living expenses.

University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships
The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) are merit-based awards that are open to students of any nationality who will be registered as full-time graduate students (Masters or Ph.D.) at the University of Manitoba.  The fellowships are valued at $18,000 for PhD students, or $14,000 for Master’s students for a 12-month period.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) was created to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and to establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning.  The scholarships are towards a doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD) at participating Canadian Universities.  The scholarship is worth $50,000 per year for three years.

Australian Awards Scholarship
Australia Awards Scholarships, formerly known as Australia Development Scholarships (ADS) are scholarships for international students from selected countries in Asia, Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East who wants to study at Australian Universities.  The scholarships are towards vocational education and training courses, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, and PhD degrees at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.  The scholarship benefits generally include full tuition fees, return air travel, establishment allowance, contribution to living expenses (CLE), Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC),  etc.

Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship Awards
The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide full financial support for international students from around the world to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.  The scholarships include tuition fees, travel allowance, establishment allowance, monthly stipend, health and travel insurance.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)
The IPRS program enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers.  The scholarships are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree.  The scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs.  Around 330 scholarships are awarded annually.

Macquarie University Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarships
The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship provides a partial tuition fee scholarship for outstanding students to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Macquarie University North Ryde campus. The scholarship amount is varied up to AUD$10,000.

La Trobe Academic Excellence Scholarships for International Students
La Trobe’s Academic Excellence Scholarships (AES) are targeted towards high achieving international students from all countries across all of La Trobe’s undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.  The scholarship is worth between $10,000 and $20,000 and goes towards tuition fees.

Melbourne Research Scholarships
The Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) was established by the University of Melbourne and is awarded to high achieving domestic and international research students.  The benefits of the Melbourne Research Scholarship vary depending on your circumstance and may include one or more of the following: fortnightly living allowance, relocation allowance,  paid sick, maternity and parenting leave, full fee remission (international students only) and Overseas Student Health Cover (international students only).

University of Sydney International Scholarships
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).  The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years.

Adelaide Scholarships International
The University of Adelaide offers the  Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) program to attract high quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort.  The scholarships includes course tuition fees, annual living allowance, and health insurance.

Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships, the UK government’s global scholarship programme, are awarded to outstanding scholars from Chevening-eligible countries around the world. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree. Most Chevening Scholarships cover tuition fees, a living allowance at a set rate (for one individual), an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants to cover essential expenditure.  Around 1500 scholarships globally are being offered.

Commonwealth Scholarships
The Commonwealth Scholarships are intended for students from developing Commonwealth countries who wants to pursue Master’s and PhD study in the UK. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).  Each Scholarship provides airfare to and from United Kingdom, tuition and examination fees, personal maintaining allowance, thesis grant (if applicable), initial arrival allowance, among others.

Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford
Established in the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world.   The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards that supports exceptional international students from selected countries at the University of Oxford.   A Rhodes Scholarship covers all university fees, personal stipend, health insurance, and airfare to and from the student’s home country.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships
Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, namely the University Composition Fee and College fees at the appropriate rate, a maintenance allowance for a single student, one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course, and inbound visa costs.

University of Westminster International Scholarships
University of Westminster awards scholarships to eligible students from any developing country who wish to study in the UK and pursue a full-time Masters degree in any field of study offered at the University of Westminster.  The scholarship awards full tuition fee waivers, accommodation, living expenses and flights to and from London.

Developing Solutions Scholarships at University of Nottingham
The Developing Solutions Scholarships are designed for international students from Africa, India or one of the developing countries of the Commonwealth who want to study a Masters Degree at the University of Nottingham and make a difference to the development of their home country. Each year,  105 scholarships  are awarded– 30 scholarships will cover the full tuition fee while 75 will cover 50% of the tuition fee.

Edinburgh Global Development Academy Scholarships
The University of Edinburgh offers Masters Scholarships for international students from least developing countries as well as UK/EU students towards eligible Master’s programmes offered by the University.  The Master’s scholarships will cover the overseas rate of tuition fee for students from less developed countries and the “home” rate of tuition fee for UK/EU students.

DAAD Scholarships with Relevance to Developing Countries (Germany)
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides scholarships for a range of postgraduate courses with special relevance to developing countries at German Universities. The scholarships are specifically targeted to international students and young professionals from developing countries in Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, Central and South America and Central and Eastern Europe.  DAAD scholarship supports selected programmes with a variety of full or partial scholarships.

Netherlands Fellowship Program (Netherlands)
The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promote capacity building within organisations in 51 countries by providing fellowships for training and education for professionals. The NFP offers fellowships for Master studies, PhD studies, or short courses at Dutch Universities or academic institutions.  An NFP fellowship is intended to supplement the salary that the fellow should continue to receive during the study period. The allowance is a contribution towards the costs of living, the costs of tuition fees, visas, travel, insurance and thesis research.

Swedish Institute Study Scholarships (Sweden)
The Swedish Institute provides scholarships in Sweden to highly-qualified international students from developing countries who wants to pursue full-time Masters studies at Swedish Universities.  The scholarship covers tuition fee, living expenses, some travel grant, and insurance.

VLIR-UOS Scholarship Awards (Belgium)
VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from 54 developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America to pursue an English Taught Training or Master’s Programme related to development at Universities in Belgium. The scholarships cover tuition fee, accomodation, allowance, travel costs,  and other program related costs.

Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme (France)
The Eiffel scholarship program was developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a tool to allow French higher education institutions to attract the best foreign students for master’s and PhD degree programs.  Eiffel scholarship-holders receive a monthly allowance and other expenses such as return trip, health insurance and cultural activities. It does not cover tuition fees.

Quota Scholarship Scheme (Norway)
The Norwegian government provides scholarships for students from developing countries in the South and countries of Central- and East-Europe and Central-Asia under the Quota Scheme. The scheme normally includes courses at the Master and PhD level, in addition to certain professional degrees offered by state universities and colleges in Norway. Each student receives the same amount of money as a Norwegian student would do in an equivalent educational programme. About 40 per cent of the amount is given as a grant and 60 per cent as a loan. However, the loan portion is waived when the student returns to his/her home country after completing the course of study.

Swiss Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Students (Switzerland)
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships provide graduates from around 180 countries with the opportunity to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research in any academic field  at one of the public funded university or recognized institution in Switzerland.  The scholarship covers a monthly allowance, tuition fees, health insurance, lodging allowance, etc.

Leiden University Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)
The Leiden University Excellence Scholarship Programme (LExS) is open to outstanding Non-EU/EEA students enrolling in a master’s degree programme offered at Leiden University. The scholarships come in the form of the following: €10,000 of the tuition fee, €15,000 of the tuition fee, or total tuition fee minus the home fee.

Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)
The Amsterdam Excellence Scholarships (AES) awards scholarships to exceptionally talented students from outside the EU to pursue eligible Master’s Programmes offered at the University of Amsterdam. The AES is a full scholarship of €25,000 covering tuition and living expenses.

University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships (Netherlands)
The University of Maastricht High Potential Scholarships are made available by the UM Scholarship Fund with the aim of encouraging talented students from outside the EEA to follow a master’s programme at UM.  The scholarships include tuition fee, living expenses, visa costs, and insurance.

Radboud University Scholarship Programme (Netherlands)
The Radboud Scholarship Programme offers a selected number of talented prospective non-EEA students the opportunity to receive a scholarship to pursue a complete English-taught Master’s degree programme at Radboud University Nijmegen. The scholarship is not an amount of money that you will receive on your bank account but consists of a partial tuition waiver. The tuition fee will be waived to the level of an EEA student. In addition, the Radboud Scholarship also covers costs such as for visa, residence permit, health insurance and liability insurance.

University of Twente Scholarships (Netherlands)
University Twente Scholarships (UTS) are scholarships for excellent students from both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a graduate programme (MSc) at the University of Twente. The scholarship amount is from € 6,000 – € 25,000 for one year.

Utrecht University Excellence Scholarships (Netherlands)
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship offers a number of outstanding prospective students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a selected number of fields at Utrecht University. Selected students can be awarded a scholarship that covers the tuition fee and 10.000 euro living expenses per year.

Erik Bleumink Scholarships at University of Groningen (Netherlands)
The Erik Bleumink Fund Scholarships are usually awarded for any 1 year or 2 years Master’s degree programme or a 4-year Ph.D programme offered at the University of Groningen.  The grant covers the tuition fees plus the costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.

ETH Excellence Scholarships (Switzerland)
ETH Zurich supports excellent students wishing to pursue a Master’s degree at ETH with two scholarship programmes: the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) and the Master Scholarship Programme (MSP). The Excellence Scholarship consists of a grant covering living and study expenses (CHF 11,000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver.  The Master Scholarship Programme consists of a partial stipend for living and study expenses (CHF 6,000 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver.

University of Lausanne Master’s Grant for Foreign Students (Switzerland)
The University of Lausanne in Switzerland offers scholarships to international students who wishes to pursue a Masters Degree at the University through the UNIL Master’s Grants.  The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme.

Lund University Global Scholarships for Non-EU/EEA Students (Sweden)
The Lund University Global Scholarship Programme is targeted at top academic students who are citizens of countries from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (and Switzerland) and who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s or Masters Degree studies offered at the University. Scholarships may cover 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the tuition fee.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology Tuition Fee Waivers (Sweden)
A limited number of tuition fee waivers will be available for Citizens from non-EU/EEA/EFTA countries who are required to pay tuition fees and who has applied for a Master’s programme at KTH as first priority.  If granted a scholarship, the tuition fee will be waived for the total length of the programme.

ENS International Selection Scholarships (France)
Each year, the ENS organizes an international selection allowing about thirty of the most promising international students, either in Science or in Humanities, to follow a two or three-year course at the ENS. Scholars receive a monthly stipend of approximately 1,000 Euros.

Emily Boutmy Scholarships for International Students at Sciences Po (France)
Sciences Po created the Emile Boutmy Scholarship after the founder of Sciences Po in order to attract the very best international students from outside of the European Union.  The Emily Boutmy Master’s Programme can take different forms ranging from €5,000 to €16,000  for 2 years of postgraduate study or €3,000 to €12,300  for 3 years of undergraduate study.

IRO Doctoral Scholarship Programme at K.U. Leuven (Belgium)
As one of its contributions to development co-operation, K.U.Leuven offers IRO (Interfaculty Council for Development Co-operation) scholarships to deserving students from developing countries to do their PhD in the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. The scholarship includes living allowance, tuition fee, health insurance, accident insurance, and return tickets.

Japanese Government Scholarships (Japan)
The  Japanese Government offers scholarships in Japan to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate and research students under the Japanese Government Scholarship Program.  The scholarships cover allowance, travelling costs, and school fees.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (Hong Kong)
Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme aims to attract outstanding students in the world to pursue their PhD degree programmes in Hong Kong’s institutions.  The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend and a conference and research-related travel allowance per year for a maximum period of three years.

Singapore International Graduate Award (Singapore)
Singapore International Graduate Award are given to international students with excellent academic undergraduate and/or master’s results, and strong interest in doing research leading to a doctorate (PhD) in Science and Engineering at a Singapore University.  The award provides financial support for up to 4 years of PhD studies including full tuition fees, monthly stipend, settlement allowance, and airfare grant.

Schwarzman Scholars Program at Tsinghua University (China)
The Schwarzman Scholars Program will give the world’s best and brightest students from all countries the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professional networks through a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities.  The scholarship covers tuition and fees, room and board, travel costs, personal stipend, health insurance, etc.

Korean Government Scholarships (Korea)
The Korean Government Scholarship Program is designed to provide international students with an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea and to develop global leaders and strengthen Korea-friendly networks worldwide.  The scholarships cover tuition, allowance, travel, airfare, medical insurance, etc.
