Course description:

The PhD in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies Programme is designed to enable students to produce original research that makes a significant contribution to the field of gender studies. The outcomes of the programme are achieved both through focused study of a wide range of selected specialised aspects of gender analysis, and through development of more general research skills and methods that enable the student to produce original, independent work.

Academic Requirement

• Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK Masters (Distinction). If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country.

• Applicants must have completed, or be currently enrolled on, an MPhil programme or equivalent and will need to achieve a mark of 70 per cent or more overall, including 70 per cent in the dissertation element. Registration on to the MGS PhD programme is subject to standard Departmental procedures (successful assessment of first-year review).

• IELTS (Academic): Listening (7.0); Writing (7.0); Reading (7.0); Speaking (7.0). Total: 7.5

• TOEFL Internet Score: Listening (25); Writing (25); Reading (25); Speaking (25). Total: 110

• CAE Score: Grade A or B (with at least 193 in each individual element) plus a language centre assessment.

• CPE Score: Grade A, B, or C (with at least 200 in each individual element).
