Course description:

The Master of Civil Engineering (Renewable Energy) (MCE) is a 1-year full time programme at the University of Canterbury, which is ranked 8th in the world for Civil Engineering. This Masters degree programme is aimed at graduates from engineering backgrounds, who wish to study the variety of renewable energy resources and conversion technologies, system modelling techniques, challenges to sustainability and practical solutions to common issues. Graduates will go on to careers in the growing renewable and sustainable energy sector. Renewable Energy is transforming the world from a reliance on fossil fuels to sustainable energy systems. Researchers at the University of Canterbury are involved in renewable energy projects in Pacific Island nations and in South East Asia as well as New Zealand-based work like transitioning the Burnham Army Camp to more sustainable energy sources.

Renewable Energy is a multidisciplinary subject with relevant courses taught by all departments within the College of Engineering but the programme is based in Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, and the foundation and compulsory courses are:

• Foundation course: Sustainable Energy Systems
• Compulsory courses: Energy, Technology and Society; Energy Systems Modelling and Analysis; Renewable Electricity System Design; and Wind Resource Modelling.

Applicants should have completed 1 of the following:

• BE(Hons) with first or second class honours or
• BSc(Hons) in appropriate subjects.
