Course description:

The MSc Global Challenges (Online Learning) at the University of Edinburgh comprises 3 Postgraduate Certificates, with each certificate also available as a standalone qualification. To achieve MSc qualification you must successfully complete all 3 PG Certificates. Studying all three stages gives you a comprehensive insight into the global challenges and develops and broadens your skills and knowledge to tackle them effectively. As you progress through the programme you will integrate your learning from each certificate you study, adding depth and richness to your experience. The 3 Postgraduate Certificates are:

• Global Development Challenges (School of Social & Political Science)
• Global Environment Challenges (School of Geosciences)
• Global Health Challenges (Centre for Population Health Sciences).

Students can apply for the 3 to 6-year Part-time Intermittent Study, MSc Global Challenges (Online Learning) (ICL) programme or the 3-year Part-time MSc Global Challenges (Online Learning) programme. The highly flexible nature of this programme allows those with professional or family commitments to gain a further qualification with minimum interruption. You will learn through a mix of online methods, including video lectures, study guides, self-directed and guided reading, and a range of interactive online reflection and discussion activities. The MSc in Global Challenges is normally completed over 3 to 5 academic years and is awarded by the School of Social and Political Science.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have a UK 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent. International students are to check the Official Website (link found below) to see if their qualifications meet the university’s general entry requirements.

English language tests accepted as evidence of English competency are as follows:

• IELTS: total 7.0 (at least 6.0 in each module)
• TOEFL-iBT: total 100 (at least 20 in each module). TOEFL MyBest Score is not accepted.
• PTE Academic: total 67 (at least 56 in each of the “Communicative Skills” sections). But this test will no longer be accepted from AY 2021 onwards.
• CAE and CPE: total 185 (at least 169 in each module)
• Trinity ISE: ISE III with a pass in all 4 components.

Your English language qualification must be no more than 3 and a half years old from the start date of the programme you are applying to study, unless you are using IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Trinity ISE, in which case it must be no more than 2 years old.
