Scholarship value/inclusions:
IPRSs cover full tuition fees for each year of the course and the annual Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
Students awarded an IPRS by the University of Melbourne normally receive a MIRS (another scholarship) as well which provides a living allowance, thesis allowance and other benefits. Students transferring with an IPRS from other institutions are not guaranteed a MIRS.
Eligibility:
- • Only open to international applicants (i.e. citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand who are not Australian permanent residents.);
- • Applicants need to have an unconditional offer of a place in a graduate research degree course (e.g. masters by research, PhD or other research doctorate) at the University of Melbourne;
- • A scholarship will not be offered if the applicant has already completed a qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought. The only exception is if the student currently holds a masters by coursework they can be considered for a scholarship for masters by research studies;
- • The academic requirements to be considered for the graduate research scholarships are the same as those that apply to entry to the PhD, and these requirements apply even if a scholarship is sought to undertake a masters by research. First Class Honours results are required to be competitive (usually exceptional H1 results for the IPRS and prestigious and other major scholarships); and
- • International applicants cannot be considered for a fee remission scholarship (ie. the IPRS or the MIFRS) if they already hold, or will receive, another scholarship that covers tuition fees.
