AAUW (formerly known as the American Association of University Women) has a long and distinguished history of advancing educational and professional opportunities for women in the United States and around the globe. One of the world’s largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW is providing more than $3 million in funding  for more than 200 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofit organizations in the 2009-10 academic year.

International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported.

Editor’s note: Under the program, 2009-2010 fellows pursued diverse fields such as microfinance, malaria research, sustainable development, international human rights law, curriculum design, microbiology, and others.

Number of Awards:

For AY 2009-2010, a total of 36 international fellowships were awarded.  Since it started, International Fellowships have been awarded to over 3,000 women representing 135 countries

Target group:

Women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents.  AAUW supports women breaking through educational and economic barriers as aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

Master’s/Professional Fellowship: $18,000
Doctorate Fellowship: $20,000
Postdoctoral Fellowship: $30,000

As part of the application process, your eligibility is checked (see this link) before you can apply for the fellowship.  Recipients are selected for academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to women and girls.
